I upgraded just my video card when Doom 3 went gold, from 5900 to 6800 GT. My last CPU upgrade was in summer 2003, it was 2.8c ghz cpu and gig of ram, which has lasted me well.

Thats a fast a$$ 286 my 386 is only 12MHz , 24MHz cos it has a 387 12MHz co Processor . But still :-D , im not sure my 8085D 2MHz will run HL2 , but im pretty sure my main PC will .

Athlon 64 3400+
1GB Corsair PC3200 (2x512 Matched)
Radeon 9800XT
Gigabyte GA-K8NS-Pro
120GB Maxtor + 160GB Seagate
SB Audigy
Dell P1110 21'' Flat CRT

I upgraded the monitor for only 55 (getting a 19'' TFT at christmas)
I upgrade only when a game comes along that i cant run comfortably @ 1024x768 , so my last upgrade was because of Doom3 , though after running source i dont think it needs further upgrades for HL2 , which is nice .

Intel 2.8GHz
120GB Barracuda HDD
X800 XT
1GB DDRAM

But getting that also meant a new mobo and case. In fact, I practically bought a new computer. Only the CD/DVD, speakers, screen and mouse remain.
