~*~*The Offical 'Will Counter-Strike: Source run on my comp?' Thread*~*~

Well I guss it have to bring my other thread over to here because people don't know how to look for the FAQ...

Thank you

Regulars, keep this thread bumped so that people don't post a new thread when this is moved onto page 2 or so...

Use this too, I don't really trust this thing but if you want some more good news about your comp then use it

Also use this:

Also like my other thread we can give you estimates on FPS w/ X details on/off.

For 9800Pro and 5200FX Owners, Read this:
quote:
to start us off Im going to list two computers and their performance at the highest playable FPS.
both computers are stock, no overclocking.

Computer 1:
Processor: Geniune Intel Pentium 4 2.6ghz
Memory: 512MB PC3200 DDR Ram
Graphics Card: ATI 9800 Pro (128mb, 256bit architecture... in other words its not the ripoff version)

Settings Played at:
Resolution: 1280x1024
Anisotropic Filtering: 4x
Anti Ailiasing: 4x
Settings: all options turned on and set to their highest setting

Framerate:
Idle: (when no one is around) 80-100fps
Medium-Action: (small battles including around 10-20) 80-100fps
Extreme-Action: (big gunfights including around 30-40 people) 50-75fps
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Computer 2:
Processor: Geniune Intel Pentium 4 2.8ghz (hyper-threading enabled)
Memory: 256MB PC3200 DDR Ram
Graphics Card: Nvidia Geforce 5200FX 128mb (horrible card)

Settings Played at:
Resolution: 1024x768 (monitor on this comp doesnt go higher)
Anisotropic Filtering: 0x (off)
Anti Ailiasing: 0x (off)
Settings: all options turned on and set to their highest setting **however since this card is a DX8 card there are things that are noticeably missing.. things like the reflections on the tiles in the building, and the reflections on guns.. also the reflections on the scopes on some rifles**

Framerate:
Idle: (when no one is around) 80-90fps
Medium-Action: (small battles including around 10-20) 70-90fps
Extreme-Action: (big gunfights including around 30-40 people) 60-85fps

For 9800Pro Owners, Read this:
quote:
Here we go:

System
Pentium 4 2.96Ghz 1Ghz FSB
OCZ EL Platinum PC3200 DDR RAM - 4x256MB chips
Sapphire Atlantis 9800 Pro 128MB R350 core
Windows XP Service Pack 2
DirectX 9.0c
Catalyst 4.9 Beta

Game
I play 1280x960 @ 4xAA/16xAF, all settings in CS:S are the highest it allows. I usually have about 4 background applications in the background.

Average FPS: 70
Lowest FPS: 60
Highest FPS: 100
(all numbers are approximate)

Other tested resolutions:
1920x1440 0xAA/16xAF = 30fps average
1024x768 4xAA/16xAF = 70fps average
1600x1200 2xAA/16xAF = 70fps average

Thoughts

Source engine is highly optimized, it never slows down even in intense fights. The FPS actually don't change much between resolutions, it's the AA that makes it change significantly. 1920x1440 is beautiful, but also a bit slow at 30fps. It's smooth, but not as fast as I want it. 1280x960 is an excellent resolution as is 1600x1200.

For FX 5900 Owners, Read this:
quote:

Max Details, 4xAA 8xAF: 50 to 60 fps, dropping to 30s in smoke.

Review
Awesome. When I first loaded up de_dust, I was in awe. The game is simply beautiful. When you buy a Desert Eagle, the sides of the gun will sort of reflect the world. When you're looking straight ahead, it's got a tannish tint. When you look up, there is a sky-blue tint in it. Simply beautiful.
The physics are incredible. Everything reacts the way you think it would. When you shoot an object, the further you are from it, the shorter a distance it flies. Barrels will roll if you jump on top of them while they are on their side. They will fly up if you chuck a grenade under a couple of them. The game is really wonderfully done.
One other graphical feature I noticed was on the glass bottles throughout the map, they will reflect the map. I cannot believe how nice it all looks. You guys will not be let down. Believe me.

Actually, no, it won't. Did you read the MINIMUM SPECS??

Read the friggin topic. Anything under that will BARELY be able to run it, if at all.

I still wonder why so many people have fx5200s here, then i realize they all went to best buy to purchase their graphic cards..

Well easy. Common sense. And I've been studying Computer Arts and 3D Design so I know some things lots of others don't. And I know people.

Im worried if my

Athlon FX-53 o'ced to 2.56 gightz Water Cooled
Abit AV8 KT800 PRO Hypertransport FSB 1000mhtz
2 gigs of Corsair XMS 3200 pro 2-2-2-5 latency with heat spreader
Western Digital SATA Raptor @ 10,000 rpm
BFG Geforce 6800 GT o'ced at Ultra Speeds

will be even able to run at the lowest settings?

Im juss playing...not trying to show off or anything ::cough::

and for the dude who wants to play source with no eye-candy

just play 1 .6 then, the whole purpose of source is pretty much for eye-candy...you say physics, but really all the physics for the beta map of dust is the movable barrels...
